This film has four layers 1. Beautiful visuals, the outer layer 2. Nostalgia 3. Cheesy jokes and predictable action 4. Emptiness, there's no weight to any of it, no atmosphere

Don't get me wrong I don't think it's a one out of ten but it does not deserve to be ahead of films like the hateful eight and I feel bad for all the money Disney has managed to make for nothing original, I was looking forward to it, but was so disappointed, there are plot holes everywhere that make you escape from the movie because you don't believe any of it, and everything is made overly dramatic without any subtly so it just makes you cringe instead, there are no New ideas and they make the galaxy feel as if it's the size of a small town rather than that feeling of endlessness you get from the originals, the first half was better but the second half is so predictable, I liked Kylo ren and hope snoke is not just emperor 2.0 but the plot was far-fetched and the cheesy jokes felt awkward and cringe worthy like in a marvel movie but those jokes have more place in them

he Two Pamelas is a hard gritty Noir style film set in modern times where the gritty hard boiled detective aids the damsel in distress. I love this style of filmmaking because it's a throwback to some great movies and very talented actors. Our story begins with Detective Ray Galento (played by Robert Miano), who is assigned to a murder case involving controversial casting director, Burt Wald. Actress Darlene Patrick (played by Jennifer Day) wakes up in his office on the couch with Burt's cold, dead body laying there.Detective Galento delves in to the mystery and finds several suspects with very plausible motives.

The story is well written and keeps one guessing till the very end. The plot twists and turns and intrigue are masterfully crafted by the writer. Veteran Actor Macino is able to take this wonderful dialog and masterfully present it to the audience without "overacting". The chemistry between the cast worked very well which this film genre's fan base is very particular about.

Two Pamelas is also matched with brilliant cinematography from Jeff Hathcock who captured this perfect homage to Noir filmmaking. The film although set in modern times has cleverly included the all too familiar dutch angles and stylistic coloring in a different light. Some of the films scenes were colored in a sepia tone instead of the stark black and white. It was crisp and clean and each scene whisked you away to the next; never leaving a dull moment.

The film is not to be missed for fans of this genre. Unlike many modern adaptations of this style, Jeff Hathcock clearly had an understanding of what makes a good Noir film and has created a wonderful modern tale.

A heart-warming, life affirming, romantic comedy.

It follows the lovely Mélanie Bernier, and Clovis Cornillac.

He's a miserable misanthrope who enjoys his own space, whilst she's a shy pianist.

Forced to 'live together' as their adjoining apartments are separated by 'tissue paper' thin walls.

It's really an updated, more touching version of "Sleepless in Seattle".

The major advantage of the plot is their common passion for music. This brings them closer whilst it also plays with the standard rom-com formula.

The secondary characters are equally funny and drive the comedy along. Lilou Fogli (screenwriter of this film and wife of Clovis) is fantastic in the role of sister Mélanie Bernier, talkative, funny and uninhibited. Philippe Duquesne also plays a gruff whilst endearing friend.

Ultimately it's not a film that you'll think you've seen this all before, it's refreshing, funny and classy.

His family sees a lamb meal - Ephraïm sees his pet
2 August 2015 | by  (Auckland, NZ)
At the start of the story Ephraïm has lost his mother due to famine and his father drops him with his relatives in another part of rural Ethiopia. Seeing huge hills, mountains and green landscapes at first the story seems pastoral but Ephraïms adoptive family are also hungry and living in poverty.

Ephraïm loves his pet lamb but his Uncle sees the lamb as food for an upcoming feast. The story is slight but it offers us an almost documentary style look at life in Ethiopia. A little girl is sick and slowly it dawns on us - the audience that the mostly likely cause is malnutrition. The mother in the story takes her daughter (Ephraïms cousin) to a doctor who says she needs food to get well.

Against all of this backdrop Ephraïm misses his Dad and is anxious to protect his pet sheep and has several adventures. Watch this film for a glimpse of life in Ethiopia. There is a side plot with one of Ephraïm's cousins who is trying to study and make her way in an Ethiopia that isn't based on doing same old things with predictable tensions and uncertain outcomes.

For me this movie was incredibly painful. There were constant flaws within the character's stories and within the overall plot itself. Everything felt forced and rushed along as JJ Abrams tired his best to smash in all the Easter eggs he could that would give old timers a sense of nostalgia and make them forget what a bad movie they're watching.

My problem with (inappropriate) humor:

This Star Wars movie felt like a Marvel superhero film, with humor added in all the wrong situations. Star Wars films have a history of having darker tones until, despite all odds, the heroes barely manage to escape, where Marvel movies have gotten a reputation for lighthearted, funny movies without any real danger posing significant threat. Jokes are inserted at inappropriate times, ruining the gravity of grave situations for the heroes in The Force Awakens. The biggest example of this is when star-pilot Poe Dameron is captured and when face-to-face with the newly introduced Kylo Ren blabs out "So who talks first?" and other light hearted dialogue to get some cheap laughs out of the audience. Yes some people laughed, but at what cost to the mood? This ruins a potential scene for Kylo Ren to establish himself as fearsome and creates a scene for the audience to begin to associate danger with laughter, similar to Jar Jar Binks goofing around in the middle of a fire fight.

My problem with "the weapon": Despite the problems posed by bringing an entire sun into a planet and still having frozen snow on the surface, let alone any living thing not instantly being incinerated, it still takes the perfect amount of time for the rebels to win despite there being a perfect demonstration by blowing up the new republic government (a story I am left very curious about but I guess we'll never hear about it since they just get blown up). And what happens when the planet runs out of suns to use as fuel? Are there giant engines that will move it to the next sun, and can the First Order control the rotation of the planet or does gravity go all crazy when positioned to attack a new target.

My problem with the character Finn: His affection for Rey is nearly immediate and he seems to be the only Stormtrooper that can aim in the entire franchise of Star Wars. He shows his prowess with a blaster during the raid of the new JJ Abrams' version of the Cantina. Killing soldiers left and right with his blaster, despite working sanitation and not firing his weapon once during his "first mission." His prowess with the light-saber is thrown on the audience as well, defeating the Stormtrooper in close quarters combat and holding his own against the trained Kylo Ren. He is even able to use the TIE fighter's and Millennium Falcon's weapon systems with expertise, shooting down trained First Order pilots in while in both ships.

My problem with the "epic duel": When it comes time to see the final duel at the end of the movie we have a matchup between the evil Kylo Ren against the two heroes, Rey and Finn. Kylo Ren is clearly hurt from a blaster as he took a blast from Chewbacca's crossbow but he demonstrates the ability to endure the pain and function regularly as he beats his wound repeatedly. What is expected is a complete massacre of a deserted soldier and a scavenger but what the audience gets is the opposite. Of course the good guys must win eventually but they do not need to win in the first movie of the newest trilogy. In both previous trilogies, successful or not, we see our hero attempt to face off against the villain and lose. This happened in the cases of Qui-Gon against Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace, Anakin and Obi-Wan against Count Dooku in Attack of the Clones, Yoda against Darth Sidious in Revenge of the Sith, and finally Luke Skywalker against Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back. These losses happened for a reason, to show that the hero is not yet ready to defeat the evil that opposes him/her. It gives added fear toward the main villain and shows how powerful he is. The idea of a Jedi training to gain skill has been stressed so much in the previous 6 movies the thought of even a novice Jedi defeating a Sith Lord would be absurd. But in Star Wars 7 we do not only see a scavenger beat a Sith, but we also see an ex- Stormtrooper hold his own against the "fury" of Kylo Ren. Having the new Darth Vader figure be beaten by a scavenger who has never wielded a light-saber, never had any combat training against trained soldiers, and did not even believe in the force until halfway into the movie extremely belittles his ability to bring any concern to the audience over the danger of their hero. During the next movies we will possibly see Rey or another main character face off against Kylo Ren again. Now at the end of the movie we see Ren go to complete his training (I have no idea why he was in charge if his training was incomplete) but we also see Rey find Luke and begin her training. By Star Wars 8 both will have improved but one would think Rey would have improved exponentially due to her absolute lack of training during her entire life. We will have a face-off in later in the series that we have already seen, with no added tension because we there will not be much doubt about our hero due to Kylo Ren already being brutally defeated in Star Wars 7.

User Reviews

Here is yet another 2015 gem. There wasn't a ton of marketing for this movie, so it kind of snuck up on me, but it is quite the Christmas comedy. You have one of the top comedic geniuses of this generation in Seth Rogen, one of the most underrated character actors turned lead actor in Anthony Mackie, and of course, Joseph Gordon Levitt, it's quite the trio. So perhaps I shouldn't be surprised all of them worked so well together on screen. I was surprised however just how funny this movie was.

We know Rogen can be funny. Pineapple Express is one of my all time favorite comedies, Superbad is a classic, and he was even great in a dramatic turn in Steve Jobs this year. But I don't think Rogen has ever been as funny as he is in The Night Before. He does his usual stoner gag, but it works so well up against two actors in Levitt and Mackie who are for the most part, the straight men in the film. The trio have a great balance of knowing when to hit hard on a big joke and when to pull back and give it a much more grounded scene. With that said, I think the film's few weaknesses are within those somewhat dramatic sequences. The Night Before can be extremely goofy and so when it then tries to be 500 Days of Summer with JGL, it falls short.

It's still one of, if not my favorite comedy of 2015. I really bought into the groups bond as they go through their version of the ghosts of past, present, and future with the surprisingly funny Michael Shannon character, who steals every scene he's in. It's also a very re-watchable movie, and one that I can see myself revisiting every few Christmases.

So in all, I have to commend the film for trying to add some dramatic flavor to an already hilariously packed Christmas film, but it's strengths are what get you to the theater. Rogen has never been funnier, JGL gives a balanced performance, and Mackie has plenty of time to shine. There are also quite a few fantastic cameos, some expected, some unexpected. But by far the best thing to take away from The Night Before is that it's a comedy actually filled with comedic moments, take notes studios.

This is one of the best films of the year! Cary Fukunaga swings and hits the ball out of the park and the ball hit a windshield! A film with so much savagery that it also makes you feel for this boy and what he is going through! A must see and one of the many reasons to go and get a Netflix account! Idris Elba gives the best performance of his life as the Commandment! Abraham Attah is amazing and has one of the best child actor performances ever! It is as good as True Detective and one of Netflix's best pieces of entertainment! Hopefully those Adam Sandler movies don't ruin their perfect line up(which it probably will).

Another weekend, another review and this time we are rocking into the theater for yet another youthful drama. Zac Efron leads the cast in the latest film about partying and friendship, in hopes of entertaining the masses in what looks to be some half-baked movie. Yet Hollywood can sometimes surprise you with a masterpiece that will hold a place in your own hall of fame. What is the verdict with this movie? Well sit back, relax and read my thoughts on Max Joseph's We Are Your Friends.

The plot of the movie, according to the trailers, centers on Cole an aspiring D.J. in the San Fernando Valley who longs to make his mark. His idealistic, and mostly deadbeat, friends "work" to find a means of making money to move up to bigger and better things, perhaps resulting to less legal manners to do so. Fortune smiles on Cole when another DJ named James (Wes Bentley) offer him opportunities that could set him up for success. But these opportunities, as well as a cute woman named Sophie (Emily Ratajkowski) may be more than he bargained for. What chaos can ensue?

Does this plot sound familiar? Well it should, because We Are Your Friends picks up the same carbon copy teenage drama plot that millions fall in love. Predictable doesn't describe how easy it was to pick apart the plot and know what was going to happen next. Much of the tale, as well as the dialog, focused on very shallow qualities that our modern age could relate to, primarily living for the moment via the use of drugs, booze, and careless sex. The "love" aspect in the film is rather simplistic, greatly diluted by the partying scenes and almost nonexistent until the end of the movie. Amidst the sea of very selfish and irresponsible motives, the team managed to add a few good morals to the film, such as working hard and selflessness towards others. It was just a shame that so much of this was rushed, so that they could maximize more of the party atmosphere. This brings me to my next point, the cinematography.

We are your friends is all about making you feel you are partying, much of the 90 minutes dedicated to portraying modern social life… at least in the LA region. Loud raves filled with many young extras jamming to electronic music are the primary settings of this film. I felt they did a nice job dropping you into various party styles that help give you some social culture education, immersing you in all the aspects they have. Unfortunately this meant glorifying drugs, alcohol, and recreational sex as the true means of having fun. I only hope the consequences they showed at the end get through to the main audience, but with how much fun they made partying on drugs, can't say that will be the case. I'll admit I did enjoy the artistic direction they took for one drug scene, where the visual styles pop out, but otherwise it was not an impressive display. The best parts of the entire cinema for me though were showing the DJ process, getting glimpses on how the music I enjoy so much is synthesized and brought to life.

In addition to glorifying the party lifestyle, this film also likes to focus on the body…a lot. Many of the extras and our two leading actors are very hot, sexy, or whatever descriptive term you want to use. Efron has plenty of moments in skin tight, muscle- emphasizing shirts that are shed to show off his body. If you're like some of my friends, you'll give this movie a ten for this feature alone. Guys don't worry; the directors have given you plenty of female anatomy to appreciate as well. Emily alone is very gorgeous to look at, but they have casted enough extras in skimpy clothing, and sometimes none, to appeal to your natural urges. Either way, this movie is sure to get some people "excited" and plays well to appeal to the shallow side of things.

The best and final thing for me of this movie though is the soundtrack. Since this is a movie about an aspiring DJ, you can guess the movie is filled with tracks of electronic dance music. Fans of this genre will be tapping their toes as the music plays through the theater speakers, bass booming in full strength until the rest of the sounds became integrated into the mix. I admit I was boogying to many of tracks they created for this film. While some of the tracks are a little disorganized, I loved the integration of the music into the scenes and how the song matched the tone of the scene. However, if you find this kind of music simply earsplitting noise, then you need to avoid this movie for this point alone.

Let's face it; this movie is certainly not the best on the block. With a very unoriginal plot, focus on the superficial qualities of life, and lack of award winning dialog there is very little that makes this worthy of the theater. In fact, this movie would have made for a good after school special if I'm being honest. However, the movie gets points for a gorgeous cast and awesome soundtrack. Thus, I recommend you wait out for this one to come to Netflix.
